Even if Roy sends in 4 central midfielders will mean that they will strech across the pitch so 2 of them will occupy the wide positions, therefore making them wide midfielders

I was interested that Kouyate played back four for Senegal at the recent Afcon.

As a thought, could James Daly step up into the CF role. By all accounts had a good loan, albeit Kingstonian, but the lad seems to smash goals in wherever he goes.

Are there a couple of good full back prospects in the youth ranks also?

I only try an optimistic route as I just think there must be a plan b here, or a reason that the AWB money has pretty much been held back (or gone to pay stuff elsewhere). As a fan I cannot believe that SP would risk premier league survival, as that doesn’t make financial sense, so I just wonder if there’s a gem lurking at c/f and/or f/b that they feel could be the next WZ or AWB?

We hope they an idea of a striker to loan in.

I don't think Camarasa has played more than 5 matches in his career on the wing. I don't think he can play there.

Meyer and Macca have had some success as left wing and right wing, but it remains to be seen in the long term.

The disruptive fact for the rest of the players on the pitch would be that they would deputise for Townsend and Schlupp, who are left footed players.

So, the strikers will be used to running in certain directions and spaces when the ball is at Townsend and Schlupp. They know that Townsend cuts in to the centre so the strikers might try a diagonal run towards the penalty box and they know that Schlupp is a more liniar player who will cross and will set themselves up for a cross

Having 2 right footed players like Macca and Meyer as their backups and sending them in during play (and even others like Zaha, Jordan Ayew) will mean that they will act totally opposite to Townsend and Schlupp. Meyer will be the one trying to cut inside from the left and Macca will be the liniar player.

That's disruptive for teammates.

And they can't really be moved around. Having 2 left ones (Townsend and Schlupp) and 2 right footed ones (Meyer and Jimmy Macca or Jordan Ayew) in the same position -either right midfileder or left midfielder- would have been more helpful than having one of different foot in each position.

But Schlupp can't really play as inverted winger on the right as he doesn't have the technique. Macca on the left is hard to. And Meyer on the right pretty much lacks the speed to be liniar, he's more a skillful player. Only one who can play on both sides is Townsend, both as inverted winger cutting in, dribbling and finding solutions with his technique and left winger with good crosses.

Roy has said now wants to play him in the position they bought him for, which, I hope, is not out wide

I think we'll end up playing 4-2-2-2 and being very narrow this year.

.......Guaita

Ward..Cahill..Sakho..PVA

......Luka...McCarthy

....Camarasa....Meyer

...Townsend...Zaha

With Townsend and Benteke being interchangeable, McArthur and Kouyate swapping with Luka or McCarthy.

When we play the better teams, I imagine Meyer or Camarasa drop to the bench and we line up with Kouyate and McArthur coming in for them and sitting deep, getting the ball to Townsend and Zaha and hoping for the best.

It's going to be a long, hard season.

Ward has gone from back-up to an assured starter, while injuries to Tomkins and Sakho mean it is probably between Dann and Cahill as to who starts with Kelly. Given Dann's showing in pre-season and the end of last season I think Cahill may come straight in. PvA once again starts by default.

Midfield is where the only real questions sit. Meyer had a good pre-season and delivered some good crosses in from the left for Tekkers, which suggests he will start on the left of midfield. Luka always starts in the middle. Alongside him in the middle will probably be McArthur to begin with, as Kouyate is only just back from AFCON and McCarthy only arrived Wednesday; depending on James Snr's performances will probably decide if he keeps his starting place. Townsend starts on the right.

Personally, especially given the lack of a new forward, I think Zaha will play up top this season alongside Tekkers, Wickham or Camaraso, with the latter also an option further back if the rest of the midfield fail to perform.

Given Roy's general management of new signings, my prediction for the XI today is this, with Camarasa or Wilf replacing Ayew at the point at which Roy decides he's run around enough:

Guaita

Ward Kelly Cahill PvA

Townsend McArthur Luka Meyer

Bentenke Ayew

Damned close. Well done.

I think This summer was the perfect opportunity to rebuild, an opportunity lost. It was a time to find replacements for Sakho and Dann, a back up LB and RB and a striker. Palace have the oldest bunch of players in the EPL

Fair play to lads and lasses, I was honestly unsure whether it would be a success but at some points that atmosphere was as good as it's been at selhurst, looking forward to it growing

I think with all the midfield players we have this year then we will see different starting 11 and tactics depending on the opponents.

It is going to take a month or so before Roy gives any of the new signings a run out.

I have thought about all sorts of combinations and I havn't landed on what I think is best, I suppose it could all depend on how Camarasa gets on.
