Everytime I look at transfer rumours, the press always say that the deal might be "money plus player x" but I honestly don't remember the last time a swap deal actually happened...

Just thinking aloud here but with the advent of the football 'agent' that all players seem to have these days there has to be some cash floating about in the deal to grease the wheels of the transaction .

I think you are probably right. Transfer deals are too complicated these days with agents and third parties and sponsors all seeming to be involved. It's also about ego's who wants to be known as the player who was the makeweight in a big deal? Players also have more control the old pros will tell you that they had very little say in where they were transferred. Today's player quite rightly picks and chooses his club. The BBC has announced we are signing McCarthy is this connected to Zaha we will know in the next 2 days.
