My lad plays rugby once a week at his local club. He's 8 and starts full-contact in September. He's desperate to do more.

There appears to be zero opportunity to do more training than that and his school doesn't play it either.

In football, training seems loads more frequent and the opportunity to train at an appropriate level for your skills is far more widespread.

So...is anyone into their rugby sufficiently to know how I could get him more training on a regular basis?

West Wickham. So that would fall into the slight-ballache-but-not-impossble category.

Do you know if they train more than once a week?

Just give them a call, they change what they do every year. Always found them very helpful and encouraging.

Good luck to him anyway. It’s a great game to play.

My lad liked going to Rugby but he used to play pranks on everyone.

He liked Twickenham..

8 is still young mate, I'd personally refrain from over saturating him with it, especially if he's still playing touch rugby.

Maybe get him one of those training balls that bounces in unpredictable directions or just practice.passing with him in the evenings when you're home from work for now?

Rugby is quite big where I live so there are a few indoor courses and summer camps at the leisure centre. Have you tried your local leisure centre?

Hi try Beccehamians at the bottom of Corkscrew Hill, my son played juniors and seniors there and really enjoyed it, so did I it's a very friendly club.

The great thing with rugby, unlike football is that you can actually start playing at any age..
I played football from the age of 6 and stopped playing at 28.. I then started playing rugby and loved it and wished I had started playing earlier... Its very deceiving how fit you actually have to be to play the game but I love the respect that comes with it towards the officials and opposition players after the match.

Not sure where you live but I played at Old Reigations in Reigate.. Very good club with a great youth set up. Good luck to your boy.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Try Wasps FC down in Acton. Some great coaches there and a very strong community club. Might be a small trek from where you live but the club is fantastic.
