No Gender Stereotypes?

The latest intersectional feminism being forced onto the British is the dictates to advertisers by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

'Under the ban, an ad that "seeks to emphasise the contrast between a boy's stereotypical personality (e.g. daring) with a girl's stereotypical personality (e.g. caring) needs to be handled with care".

The ban is being implemented after a review by the ASA concluded that a "tougher line needs to be taken on ads that feature stereotypical gender roles or characteristics which, through their content and context, may be potentially harmful to people".

"This includes ads that mock people for not conforming to gender stereotypes," the review said.

Examples cited in the report included portrayals of women as the sole person with responsibility to clean up a mess in the home, a man "trying and failing to undertake simple parental or household tasks", and ads that suggest "an activity is inappropriate for a girl because it is stereotypically associated with boys or vice versa".

It said that such adverts had the potential to cause harm "by inviting assumptions about adults and children that might negatively restrict how they see themselves and how others see them".

This in turn, the report said, might lead to "unequal gender outcomes" in the public and private sphere, and "limit choices" that people make in life.

A consultation on whether to ban harmful gender stereotypes in adverts was supported by a majority of respondents.

The ASA said: "The evidence does not show that the use of gender stereotypes is always problematic and the new rule does not seek to ban gender stereotypes outright, but to identify specific harms that should be prevented." '

Who the feck are these people? And who are the t*ats giving these wonks a job?

Looking forward to seeing this in action

Most TV adverts seem to have an anti male bias e.g. idiot goes to bank in the pouring rain only to find it's closed whilst smug wife sits at home and phones them. Let's see if the ban is enforced equally!

You would think that feminists have bigger problems to worry about like low pay, discrimination around maternity leave, transgender people trampling over their rights and certain cultures trying to turn the clock back to the middle ages.

Still as long as we have the "Oxo man" and the DIY woman flogging power tools we'll be fine.

Yep, these people are harmful social constructionists.

They are enforcing feminist dogma straight from their feminist theories and no doubt professors.

Who gave these people the job....that's what I want to know.

How very Dan of you to lump all women in as feminists.

Simples - just ban all advertising with males and females (and others) and only permit the actual product/service to be shown, and everyone's sensibilities are taken care of!

Only by the fact they think they're better than us!

I'm reminded of the late great Bill Hicks's stand up on marketing.

Funny when now we live with this puritanical nonsense where jokes and insults are being encouraged to be viewed as criminal offences.
