Him locking horns with James Hunt in 76 was what first got me into motorsport, the fact he didn’t die back then was a miracle, so brave the way he dragged himself back in the car that season to still nearly win the title. RIP

Once you've retired don't come back - is generally good advice. There aren't many examples of champions putting their feet up and then coming back and reaching previous heights. However, Lauda did just that, having left the sport for 2 years he returned and won a further world title in 1984.
