for the under fifties was how teams on level points were sorted pre 1976, goals scored divided by goals conceded to give a complicated decimal - the bigger the better, I attach a great article on it, just wondering if any of our oldies can remember a cliffer hanger where we needed 0.0176 of a goal v Brentford or any other memories. In the 1979/80 season for example Liverpool scored over 80 and let in just 16 giving them an average of over 5, where +2 is outstanding and 3 exceptional. [Link]

I clearly remember the days of goal average although I don't remember the game v.Brentford when we needed 0.0176 of goal. But, there have been quite a times over my years of supporting Palace when I would have been very grateful to see 0.0176 of a goal from them.

But, there have been quite a times over my years of supporting Palace when I would have been very grateful to see 0.0176 of a goal from them.

you don't have to go too far back for that - Calvin Andrews goal average was pretty miniscule

In 1928-29 Palace missed out on the Div 3 South title to Charlton Athletic, both ending on 54 points, in the days of only one club promoted. We won our last 3 games but Charlton's goal average was 1.43 to Palace's 1.21.
