I think the balance of the midfield is not right and has not been right for most of the season. All the players have attributes.
Luka is captain, penalty taker and seems virtually undroppable.
Mcarthur is reliable and a Hodgson favourite who is always likely to start.
Kouyate is an experienced premier player with good physical attributes who doesn’t let the team down.
Schlupp has improved recently and has a decent record on goals and assists.
Meyer is talented and a neat passer who links the team and offers a different skill set to the others.
I don’t think we’ve seen Luka, Kouyate and Meyer tried together yet in a midfield three which many on here advocate.
Although I can see merit in this, I can’t see it happening as Roy always finds a place for Mcarthur and to play him wide right in a version of 4-4-2 would mean dropping Townsend.

He needs to mix it up a bit depending on who were playing and wether home or away. No point I'm playing 3 defensive midfielders at home against a mediocre side. Needs to be a bit adventurous sometimes, play 442. If he's not going to play benteke with batshuAi, why not try a 442 with wilf and batshuAi. Not all thd time, but just to change shape now and again...
