Sad end to a thread that could have been interesting. Shame when threads get hijacked.

No, what I mean is: If you're given tips and then you go off and place them with your own bookie, how has the information on all of those different bets been collected and then calculated to give you your ROI? You must either be using the tipster as your vehicle for placing the bets, or you must be inputting all of that info into a program yourself. Without intentionally trying to Morton's fork you, the former IS a Ponzi scheme (free to join or not) and the later is reliant on the honesty and accuracy of the information you input from multiple sources across hundreds and hundreds of bets so it's completely unreliable. I can’t even be bothered to read that after skim reading it. I can compare my points made to the tipster and what he makes with what I record by bet, by day, month, year They’re very close and so will the ROI be. You’re very trying. Goodbye.

Only 10 a year!! 06 Feb 19 3.18pm | |

I worked in Horse Racing for years and only bet for recreation, small affordable amounts I am happy to lose. I have no other vices such as fags or drink etc. Always wanted to keep a trace and did for over a year in a blog (see below) and it did run a profit, the ROI was pretty low but that was not the point. It was fun but work and children made me stop as time was better spent doing other things. I cannot imagine following a tipster as the fun I derive is from trying to solve the puzzle myself.

The only people who genuinely make money gambling are professionals, they would know trainers personally or be invested in the horses or part of consortiums, they would have genuine inside information and know when a horse (or dog) is spot on and primed to win. Then there's people who speculate on margins, betting and hedging, not too dissimilar to forex trading Anyone who thinks they have a proven system that guarantees profits, well if that were true everyone would be doing it

People do make money, it’s just done over more bets and a longer time period rather than specific horses.

Good post I am the same. I had a friend who knew some of the big Arab and Irish owners (they stayed at his hotel). Occasionally they would give him a tip but their horses would never be really long odds because they were top horses with top jockey's. It was always nice to have a winner from them but as the poster says its more fun when you pick the winner yourself. Bottom line I am a mug punter and happy with that.

For people who are interested, Betting Gods are doing an offer on Quentin Franks (a Palace fan!) who is their main horse racing tipster. Running since 2014, he's made £12.4k to £10 stakes and hasn't had a losing year. Normally he costs about £30-£40 per month to follow but for some reason (despite fact he's massively up this month and last!), they're offering it to people for £39 for 6 months. I personally follow his tips and always find them decent.

In the meantime, don’t know if anyone got on this but since I posted it he’s made about 130 points profit (which to £10 stakes is £1300). This includes a huge 50/1 winner today!
