I'm glad this has been mentioned as I feel it's at an all time low (for Palace). We've lost possession frequently when having a throw deep in our own half which clearly just puts pressure on the team (usually PVA on the left up the line to no one). Years ago Kevin 'ticker' Taylor (mid 80's - great little midfilder) use to come short and would volley the throw upfield. I personally think this is an effective route when you have a throw in in the defensive part of the field. Why has it never been repeated since - it's not rocket science. Similarly all our corners/free kicks seem to lack idea - just put it in box and hope for the best. Before the goal last Sat I think we have scored one corner this season from c120 corners - the lowest conversion rate in the prem. How about runners coming short and maybe a near post flick on option? Roy needs to spend more time on this as we are clearly struggling to score

The thrower doesn't seem to think then maybe throwing the ball back into our half is an option. Forward is not always the answer. Edited by Badger11 (25 Jan 2019 9.47am)

Anyone else remember a Palace player-Freedman I think-throwing the ball so it hit the back of an opponent and it came back into the thrower's path?

Dean Gordon could throw it far, but I agree with the OP that we are frustratingly useless at throwing the ball to our own team. Doesn't need to be a Rory Delap every time, a short one is fine.

I haven't seen a decent Palace throw in since 1969,when the legendary Bobby Woodruff was master of the long throw. This is a fact , any throw was recieved as if we had a free kick . happy days

If the ball is thrown a long way it is 50/50 if defence is organised, a short distance is easily defended, like I said they are over rated.
