Could not disagree more with this. Don’t be a slave to your CV, it’s a piece of paper at the end of the day. You don’t often get the chance for a break, so take some time out, have some relaxation time, then start to do some research on what you’d like to do. Choose the best option but don’t be afraid to change if it’s not panning out as you expected. Good luck! As you see fit I am just telling it as it is from the perspective of someone that has spent 40 years looking at potential new hires. Outplacement companies support people when they have to make a significant job change. They tend to focus initially on re-establishing self-esteem. You need to work out how best to do that for yourself. Get back on the horse or take some recharge time. You may also feel better if you have put together a strong CV and know how you want to portray yourself. I also agree that The Knowledge makes no sense, so much is changing in that space. On the other hand currently there is a crisis looming in HGV driving, with many drivers returning to other EU countries. Potentially a better investment and you don't buy your own vehicle (most of the time). Edited by Mapletree (20 Dec 2018 10.57am)

I've been a member here since 2005.. The vast majority I think, on here know that I'm old bill... Some may remember about 2 and a half years ago I had a very bad car accident, which after 6 weeks in hospital and 5 operations later has left me unable to ever run again... Well yesterday I was informed by the Metropolitan Police that after 18 years service they are going to medically retire me with my last working day being the 4th January 2019... I'm 40 and have no f***ing idea what to do!!... Can anyone give me a job???!!

I have worked with numerous retired Police Officers over the last few years. Many of them appear to take driving jobs, basically driving sports stars/celebs around (especially at Wimbledon time). Might be worth a look.

Well said mapletree, yes, its the cost of the taxi and all the crap that goes with it thats finished the game, but you are right, HGV is a much better paid job with no kipper season(3 months dead in taxi game after xmas), and not laying out for the cost of the cab, have driven a taxi in london for 22 years and jacked it in , but HGV is something i would consider!

Ha ha, warboys? That was one incident of rape in over 350 years of hackney carriage driving, uber had 142 sex attacks in london last year alone, including lots of rapes, the guy outside buckingham palace attacking british police officers with a massive sword , and cleared yesterday, was uber driver, uber lost case in high court yesterday, not wanting to pay minimum wage or sickpay to drivers, or partners, the list is endless, but cheaper they are for now, but the cost is rising, watch this space, and enjoy your ride, still over 1000 drivers unchecked by tfl driving for these clowns, fake licences, the lot, but the CONservatives are complicit with tfl in the cover up, tfl are trying to contact the 1000 fake licencees to ask them to submit genuine details,go to taxileaks if you want to know about uber, all there in black and white! Actually at least 12 and likely over 100.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Its now the 4th of January.. And I'm gone!!' by Midlands Eagle Seeing as it's gone midnight I am now officially (medically) retired... I am no longer KBLF pig, filth, scum, rozzer, bait, Undy, 5.0, fed, gavver and all the other wonderful adjectives I've been referred to over the last 18 years. I'm now just KBLF.. Jobless civilian. There will be some on here that hate the old bill and I get that. But I've had a great time but not sad to be leaving... I spent 15 of my 18 years at Croydon and I had a great time... I've met some amazing people in the job and I've met some absolute c***s... I nicked total wronguns and helped genuinely nice people. To me that's what Policing is about. I was fair but firm. I treated people as I expected to be treated myself... I lived, laughed, cried and saw some unimaginable sights. That's life. I will miss the laughs with my colleagues and I'll miss the great British public never failing at times to astound me with their stupidity. What's done is done. I gave 18 years of public service. I never took a bung or falsified anything so can leave with my head held high. Sometimes I used bad language, sometimes I was violent but that's the reality of the streets. At least now I can dedicate more time to watching Palace!!
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Thanks for all your Help, advice and Honesty about what the job entails (despite all that she still joined the force ) I hope you can find a nice job with a lot less stress and more sensible hours. I am sure there is something just round the corner. Until then enjoy Jeremy Kyle, Homes under the hammer and Bargain Hunt. Good luck mate.
