Suggested new tactical approach

I would like to see more pace down the flanks and balance in the team.
How about trying Schlupp at left back with PVA in an attacking left side role. PVA is supposedly the quickest player in the club as well as one of the best finishers.
I would move Wilf to the attacking right side role.
He has spent a large part of his career playing there and having AWB behind him provides defensive security as well as the opportunity to develop link up play on that side.
In midfield I would play two holding players between Luka/ Mcarthur/ Kouyate.
The attacking midfield position would be taken by Meyer.
This would mean no,place for Townsend.
This leaves the main striker position.
Here I’m scratching my head and don’t have an answer at present.

This is a Plan B proferred to ameliorate our current ills.

Guardiola has stated that he would rather try and perfect his philosophy than revert to a plan B he doesn’t believe in.

His philosophy is that when it doesn’t work well, one has to perfect one's idea.

This exact possibility has crossed my mind, but it probably won’t be considered by Roy. Too much width and attacking intent. Sadly we’re looking like a table top football team where everyone is stuck in position.

So basically you want us to play the 451 we have played for the majority of the last 5-7 years since Dougie moved in? It is still our best formation but Roy won't listen.

It would be 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 as the situation demands.
It gives us pace on both flanks and plays players in positions which should be natural for them.
The yawning gap is the striker role as really you need an aggressive pacy forward to run in behind and this may be where the system falls down as we don’t have such a player.

I have a great idea why don't we try and score more goals than the other side.

Maybe create the chances rather than rely on the chance presenting itself.

Not that the idea could be bollocks in the first place?

I don't really think we can be too critical of the Guardiola Plan A !

So basically van Aanholt moves to left midfielder and Schlupp drops to left back?? I could see that work actually, cause Schlupp doesn;t offer half as much as van Aanholt on the offensive.

And the second thing you'd change is Meyer in for Townsend if I understand correctly. Maybe could be tried. But I'd rather play them both in the first 11 and Zaha up front because I wouldn't start any of Benteke/ Sorloth / Ayew at the way they're playing.
