Harry Kane loves a dive, but is quite subtle about it, he tends to lean into defenders and fall to the ground.
During the course of a game he " goes to ground easily" several times,but of course the pundits never pull him up on it.

On a general level, why are the rules for Sterling/attackers different from defenders in this scenario?

If a defender clipped a striker and the penalty wasn't given, would you expect the defender to tell the ref that it was actually a penalty?

As mentioned in this thread, the officials behind the goal are absolutely useless - they've been around for years and I've literally seen a couple of decisions made solely on their say-so.

This talk of owning up brings to mind that incident involving Di Canio, playing for West Ham at Everton many years ago. The home goalie had rushed out to challenge an attacker, got injured and was lying on the ground while play went on. The West Ham player passed the ball into the middle, where Di Canio, instead of kicking the ball into the unguarded net, caught it in both hands. The Everton crowd gave him a standing ovation but 'arry wasn't 'appy.

Pub quiz: What was the final score? And did the referee award a free kick for hand ball?

How come the same furore surrounding apparent diving by Mr Hazard at the weekend hasn't been afforded to him like it does to our Wilf?
His was a blatant dive, something Maddison in the Leicester game was man enough to admit and apologise for.

Wilf = Palace
Maddison = Leicester
Hazard = Chelsea

Nuff Said Ok?

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Maddison is naive and will get bollocked by the senior players

* having now read what Maddison said, he framed it as " I anticipated contact " so he is basically saying he was unlucky as the contact didn't come not " I am a cheat who tried to deceive the referee".

He says he will " learn from the mistake " which I guess means he will improve his diving skills

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
