Not a hope in hells chance, im afraid.

Common sense for Refs went out the window the day the EPL was born & SKY changed everything. Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you & others on this, BUT, the law makers of FIFA(not the FA) deem things otherwise. Sad, but, true

I'm an amateur/Semi Pro referee, and the higher you go up the referee ladder, the more you HAVE to stick to the letter of the law. Lee Probert would have been marked down and possibly had to face a review board with a view to taking him of the EPL referee list.

you can't just decide not to give a give a yellow, if it is a blatant caution. Where do you draw the line ?

What if Vardy scythes down Arter at knee height ? Do you just have a word with Vardy because he's emotional ? Or send him off for serious foul play ?

Stupid law, correct decision

Haven't seen too much sticking to the letter of the law on handling the ball lately.

Not seeing an infringement in law, is not the quite the same as ignoring the law because someones boss has passed away.

I get it's an emotive subject, but it's the laws passed down by FIFA that are to blame here, NOT the ref.

If you're a total jobsworth yeah, I don't do everything my boss tells me, if I don't think something is right I won't slavishly follow the rule book, I use my discretion. Surely refereeing by definition is to make judgement and use the laws of the game as his fall back. That's how it should be

i read this scenario after it happens and it makes sense...

if he hadnt have booked gray after his celebration and a cardiff player did the same whilst on a yellow later in the game he could not have sent off the cardiff player who then could go on to score the winner.

its a silly rule, but the ref had no choice but to follow the rules!
