unfortunately for clubs like Palace there is nowhere else to go once you have reached this stage: they have achieved all they can achieve for the size of the club. The novelty of being in the premier league has worn off for a lot of fans and finishing 15th or 16th is no longer considered an achievement. Unfortunately you either have to be happy with winning 5 or 6 games at home every year or hope the club goes down to the championship where the football is far more competitive (and arguably entertaining).

I disagree we’ve achieved all we can as a club but I get your point about the novelty wearing off. That was clear in seasons 2 and 3 with the drop in singing or singing when behind. Remember in the first season we outsung the opposition before the kick off after going behind at Selhurst.

A big part to play is the lack of atmosphere this season at Selhurst, and its been dwindling for a few years now. I recall it absolutely rocking on our first home match back in the prem, against Spurs. Now it's comparable to a morgue, and going to games just is not enjoyable anymore.

I don’t remember ever walking away from Selhurst Park thinking “That was a poor performance but oh the atmosphere was great and I can’t wait for the next match!”
Fans want to see good attacking football, goals and hopefully points.
The atmosphere is important but secondary.
So far this season we’ve picked up just one point at home, failed to score a single goal and played some uninspiring football despite having good possession.
All of the talk about missing the Ultras and Singing Sections is covering up the real problem. We need a striker that’s obvious but we also need a bit more adventure in our tactics to stimulate the crowd. Roy did a great backs to the wall job last season but his rigid style and unwillingness to change during a game are not inspiring when we can’t win.
Steve Parish’s decision to give in to the Ultras at the expense of loyal fans has betrayed the clubs traditions and has created concern among many fans unnecessarily but a few exciting games with goal action would overcome all of that and get Selhurst rocking again.
Let’s hope it starts tomorrow against the Gooners but to be honest I just can’t see it.

Well said ... we need some sparkling football with an end product to raise the rafters. Bring an end to the tap tap tap $hit that fizzles out in front of goal every week. The fanatics drama is only accentuated by the lack of anything to cheer about. However, the club should never have given in to them but could have waited until the new stand is built to propose different options. So far this season, 2/10 for all round lack of effort and must do better.

There you go. I'm a loyal season ticket holder for the better part of 20 years.

I know I should be 'grateful' we're in the premier league and we have survived various seasons and Parish saved us..etc..

But it is so dire at the moment. It really is.

The idea of going on Sunday feels like a waste of a day. And as it stands I've made other plans. Now that means we'll probably win this Sunday, but when you look at the form of both teams I can't see Palace getting anything from this.

That said it's the usual irony of the games we're not meant to win that we do win.

I've said this before, I don't think Roy is up to it. We stayed up last season, and Roy oversaw that. But he hasn't had a good start to the season, our player recruitment has been a joke..And he seems to forget about using substitutes.

The concensus would appear to be that we pick up 0 pts from our next 4 games but we could well surprise a few supporters !

I suspect some think that we will get precious little from these games and just hope that the teams below us also struggle and that at the end of the 4 games we are not in the relegation zone.

Teams below us next 4 games :

Southampton : Home Newcastle, Away Man C, Home Watford, Away Fulham

Cardiff : Away Liverpool, Home Leicester, Home Brighton, Away Everton

Fulham : Home Bournemouth, Away Huddersfield, Away Liverpool, Home Southampton

Huddersfield : Away Watford, Home Fulham, Home W.Ham, Away Wolves

Newcastle : Away Southampton, Home Watford, Home Bournemouth, Away Burnley

It's definitely way off. Not even signed off yet. We're not the quickest of clubs as it is.

as the novelty of being in the prem as underdogs wears off there's bound to be a dip in the atmosphere - Newcastle and Leeds are renowned for their support, 15 minutes into an ordinary game it goes quiet like everywhere else - no goals and one point in four games would quieten any crowd, the team has a big role in creating the atmosphere - they are more responsible for the lull more than the crowd - though there is the ultras issue, but I wouldn't knock our quality in possession, that's one of the few signs of progress this season, a goal at the end of it would be nice though!

We were quiet in the first match v Liverpool and v Southampton, and still are.
