Just let Luka do his cleaner role in front of the back four and let Kouyate and Meyer do the rest. The pair of them will add the box to box energy plus the creativity that Cabaye used to provide knowing that Luka will give them plenty of the ball.
Add a striker who is able to hit a cows behind with a banjo and bob’s your uncle.

Totally agree. Start with Wilf and Townsend up front. Midfield of Luka, Meyer, Kouyate and McArthur. Beginning to think Roy is being a bit stubborn and seemed to suggest recently he couldn't start with both Meyer and Kouyate!

How come none of our football management team knew that?

Agree with the thoughts on Cabye's quality so obviously missing.
A short term extension on decent terms, offered would probably secured his services, not the one that del boy offered,( huge pay cut!!).
Now we are really beginning to pay the price as we begin our seasonal relegation struggle.

This point keeps being made and it is getting frustrating reading it again and again.

We did replace Cabaye! Roy just ain’t starting him - for some reason!

Unfortunately Cabaye is missed like no other midfield baller I can remember.
His passing ability was better than any player I think I’ve ever seen in a CPFC shirt. His willingness to receive the ball and actually try to do something inventive was a joy to watch for me.
If anyone can name a better passer in the last 20 years please do so??

I’m intrigued to hear opinions..

And don’t bother saying yet again he couldn’t last 90 mins because he obviously could. You just wouldn’t see him press the GK from 30 yards away a few times a game or throw himself into almost every tackle possible or go bang straight at minute 1.

In my opinion!

Agree overall. I do think Meyer can do this role but not perhaps be as physical, although this may be offset somewhat by his ability to dribble and carry the ball up the pitch more than Cabaye did, or could.

In terms of a better passer (and this is a guess as it was before my time), Lombardo?

Your opinion is valid. He was/is quality but we do have a potential replacement sitting on the bench. He should be the first pick in central midfield - Luka (if his form picks up) or someone else next to him.

Cabaye was in decline but had quality and guile. He and RLC as a pair both being missed.

Reserve judgement on Meyer but Kouyate's been crap and not seeing what he adds.

His club is second to bottom in the UAE Arabian Gulf League having played 5, won 1 and lost the other 4 so nothing new for Yohan there then

I didn't know that, i know it shouldn't, buy it does kind off bring a smile to my face, even though i did like Yohan.

That’s what I’d play , although there’s no natural width in midfield , pretty much 4 central midfielders

Good point but we know that those two upfront are a handful. And our full backs can provide width - PvA is better going forward than defending. And both AWB and Ward can deliver a good cross. And as it happens I think Ward may win back his spot.

So Luka retains his spot but time is surely running short. If Schlupp is retained then I'd rather have give Kouyate a chance to show what he can do as the holding midfielder

i have put a post on the wan-bissaka winger topic how i see things have a look so im not going to copy paste it ,
speaking to other fans from other teams they are saying there world cup stars are flat, so maybe luka is not doing well because,

i know they dont have to work hard for there money could be a mental rather than physical thing, this could be the reason he is not up with the pace at the moment
