Time will tell if Ashley is a shrewd business man I don't see any future for HOF or Debenham though because department stores are dying. I am well aware we are off at a tangent from the Gift voucher title. However, the High Street is dying a slow and traumatic death. Things are changing in society. Mike Ashley has banked cash for the long-term. He don't give a 5hlt about the businesses or workers. It's called 'Land Banking'
I disengage, I turn the page. |

Without knowing the amount of liability we have no idea whether that would a) have caused the deal to not happen at all, or b) tip them over the edge and put them back in the position again. Once you an exception for them, it'll be why not pay off the rest of the debts? He's invested his money to save a failed business and most of the jobs associated with it, why doesn't he get good PR for that? I don't rush out to shop anywhere but it's better for this country to have the likes of him than your Amazon, Google and eBay etc that contribute far less.

Not exactly on topic but I know someone who managed a city centre shopping precint. There were a couple of known habitual shoplifters who had a banning order but the do-gooders on the council objected to this as it was impingeing on their human rights as they needed to clothe themselves and eat. He suggested that the known offenders should be sent an Argos catalogue so that they could shoplift from home.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
