Fascinating discussion between these heavyweights on topics such as the alt right,IQ, politics and the Left.

They both make our political leaders look third class in comparison.

Murray speaks the truth. So of course all the baddies are out to discredit him.

Completely agree.

Google “intellectual dark web” although I hate the phrase.

I would also urge anyone to download the Sam Harris and Sam Rogan podcasts who wants to better understand the world. They are both very different by the way.

Actually had the time to watch this today.

Peterson sums it up well on various topics.

The issue with the Left is the promotion of identity. Why would the group you identify with want to effectively surrender to another and lose in life?
And if that is what is being preached, then it works just as well for Europeans as anyone else. Why do 'White' left wing/liberals want to lose in life through some guilt complex while telling other groups that they need to win?

I think it is important to consider these complex issues in these simple, less intellectual terms because when you do, it exposes the absurdity more clearly.
I think Peterson's observations align with a lot of people thoughts on the issues discussed. Certainly mine.

This is a pretty interesting watch. To me this simply stresses the importance of always trying your best to hear opinions, views and news from a variety of sources, irrespective of your own ‘side’. Although if you’re a dogmatic ideologue I’d suggest this approach is a gross waste of your time. Some people on here certainly are.

I’ve been aware of him for a while, but not really paid too much attention. Mainly exposed to him through the Cathy Newman debacle. Having read up more on him and delved more into some of his past viewpoints I can’t say I agree with all of what he says and believes. But that goes for most people. Some of it is pretty questionable, and I’m not sure about some of the factual basis for some of his opinions, plus his apparently being pegged as ‘the most influential public intellectual in the western world’ – I mean…

But this particular discussion is good – especially points around intelligence and worth, points around inherent bias, extreme left vs. extreme right etc. and the mystery of the ‘Alt Right’.

I think he has more of a perception, identity and interpretation issue than anything more sinister as some would like people to believe. What that doesn’t mean is that he’s a god, everything he says is gospel and he's not allowed to be challenged or called out on some of his more flimsy proclamations.

Also in an interview with Joe Rogan he debates the M/F equality issue, and a lot of what he says is obviously correct from a biological point of view, plus a few other things, but crucially he doesn’t then go on to discuss the merits of promoting gender equality within that context. The point regarding James Damore being fired then the Youtube CEO coming out and saying essentially the same thing is pretty interesting.

You can promote gender equality and be vocal about the fact that men and women are not identical. This seems to be something both the ‘left’ and the ‘right’ sometimes avoid, as though it somehow compromises their beliefs. Which is a bit odd.

Life is about trying to understand the best way to behave for your own benefit and those you care about and how you would like humanity to behave as a whole as an extension of that. There are no simple answers.

What is clear is that any system designed to undo or realign the circumstances that have allowed some to be advantaged in the world has been and almost certainly will be disastrous. I would also invite anyone who thinks they are feeling a bit guilty about their 'privilege' to be the first to step forward and give all the benefits to someone less advantaged before telling others to do so.

Make no mistake, whatever 'identity' we have, we are not designed to put others first unless it gives an advantage to our genes. Everyone is in this game and the fact that some humans have fared better as gene carriers is not a cause for guilt and hypocrisy. There has to be a meritocracy for good and bad or society will quickly move toward 'idiocracy'. That said, it is an irony that those in the ruling class who have benefitted from meritocracy, on Left and Right, have used the plight of the less advantaged to feather their own nests to the extent that people will vote for Donald Trump or some Right-wing party in order to defend their own interests. Some would say that has brought us to 'idiocracy' already.

Life is not simple.
