That's very sad news indeed, and an awful thing to happen to anyone.

I remember him playing for Preston North End, and also in an FA Cup tie against us for Hartlepool United in 1993. Some of you may like to relive the memories of that day 25 years ago with the match highlights (then again, you may not...):

My memory of that game was that Johnrose was actually the one who had been brought down for the penalty, but it seems I was mistaken.

While his condition may not yet be curable, I hope he is able to contend with it as well as possible and wish him well with any treatment he is able to receive in future.
