If the numbers quoted on SSN are correct Fulham have spent in excess of £105m in the window. Their combined turnover for the last three years is £114m. Does this not ride roughshod over FFP or is it more related to wages? Either way, I can’t imagine their wage bill is reasonable in comparison as they will have to be paying the going (PL) rate.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Teams promoted or relegated get cash injection and FFP would look at them 3rd season if they stay in Prem. Wages wise I can't see them being that high

It would be a bit ridiculous if Fulham got done for FFP, a team coming up from the championship trying to compete, slightly goes against what FFP is for?

It will be calculated at the end of this financial year though which would include the income from their first season in Prem which would give them a turnover of another £150m or whatever it is for being in the Prem. Plus they can pump in £90m from the owners as a contribution towards FFP over that 3 year period. FFP is also not about the turnover but the profitability of the club. They can't make a loss of more than £15m over three years, if they turned over £114m in 3 years but made huge profits then that gives them more room as well.

FFP was supposed to stop clubs going into debt to buy success like Portsmouth. Newly promoted clubs have to buy players and if they have the money why not. FFP is being used by the bigger successful clubs to pull the ladder up behind them. It needs a rethink, If Fulham's owner wants to buy a Premier League title winning team and he has the money why not. All the big clubs were small clubs at one time and so were guilty of the same thing although they like to forget it. I remember Sir Alex moaning about Chelsea's transfer policy when it was pointed out that the top 4 transfer fees were all Man united players. Playground bullies don't like it when a bigger bully turns up.

I cannot see how the likes of Wolves,West Ham, Everton and Fulham who having bought in numerous players are not paying high wages. Unless they can move a few players there may be some players upset and hopefully upsetting the rest of the squad. Just a thought but they must be on a minute of £20k a week.

Ignoring the FFP side of it, bringing that many new faces in can cause imbalance in a team as the manager tries to juggle with what he thinks is his best team, all the while trying to keep players happy. On the flipside, as we found in our first season, if it turns out a new signing is rubbish you just bin them and put the next one in!
