Those found guilty and sentenced to death at Nuremberg were hanged, I believe mainly by Pierrepoint, and not shot.

Unfortunately for those condemned Nazi's at Nuremberg they did not have the honour of being despatched by the legendary Albert Pierrepoint. He hanged war criminals in other parts of Germany. The Nuremberg lot were not fortunate to be in the hands of such a skilled practitioner of the art and were often executed via the 'short drop' sometimes taking many minutes to slowly asphyxiate.

I stand corrected and bow my head, to coin a phrase. I shall need to refer to my Beevor........ to coin yet another phrase!
