interesting - I was sceptical about our depth but isn't that back up team above quite a bit better than the first Premier League team we put out in our current run in the top flight - as posted elsewhere recently it was: 2013/14 Premiership v Tottenham H L 0-1 Good shout, some serious garbage was out on that pitch just a few years ago. Kouyate will play ahead of Jimmy Mac when a more physical and taller presence is needed in the middle of the park. The days of bringing CY Lee on to change the game are over. That is good as he didnt change many games for the better. Our bench is now the best it has ever looked in recent times.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

Zaha Benteke Townsend Kouyate Luka Meyer PVA Sakho Tomkins AWB Guaita In short, we lack a decent quick player to carry the ball forward if Wilf is missing. Maybe PVA could/would be pushed forward and Schlupp goes to left back. But actually I think our squad is okay for a club of our stature. Hopefully AWB's rise has made the club realise that we also have some talent coming through. (hopefully some talent IS coming through!) I think that is just about spot on. The real difference is in the strength of the back up squad. There is beginning to be strength in depth even if 5 players won’t be there. Two of them (Meyer and Ayew) are likely to be in the starting 11 as soon as their fitness improves enough?

PS I don’t think Meyer will start or even be on the bench as he didn’t really have a preseason

Edited by Willo (11 Aug 2018 11.29am) An away draw against a money bags team wd be a good result, tho it could be that we are playing Fulham before all these players really jell. In which case we might scrape a win
