As a family man, one can't fail to be moved by the tragic premature passing of such a young radiant talent and the inordinate pressures seemingly placed upon our coming-of-age elite athletes: [Link] Her father rightly calls for much more to be done to recognise and address mental health issues that our Government is slowly but surely attuning itself to. So much more evidently needs to be done - what do you think? What actions would you like to see brought forward especially bearing in mind that emotional/ mental health illness can affect anybody?

I'd like to see more done to educate young people, perhaps 9 and up, to show that it isn't a stigma to admit that you have problems and need help. I'd imagine there is a great deal of abuse, bullying, body shaming etc that goes on around that age so it would be a good idea to make sure the kids were informed that there is help available. Of course you have to make sure the help is available be it face to face or anonymously via helplines such as the NSPCC have. 'Lies to the masses as are like fly's to mollasses...they want more and more and more'

Sadly in life it can be harder to tell yourself you have problems than to tell other people. That's really the only way to go forward and try to get better. It is a shame but I hope this young lady has found peace now in the next chapter. RIP

Too right! Children need to appreciate that you have to experience defeat/ failure to truly have the means to prepare for success through resilience etc....

Tragic loss. These things keep reinforcing the need for better mental health awareness and support. It's been so under invested in and stigmatised is terrible. The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

I agree to an extent...but more so with the other comments about treating defeat in a way that it's not a bad thing...merely a way of defining areas for improvement. As with much in life it not what we say or do, but the way we say or approach things that make a big difference. I agree to an extent...but more so with the other comments about treating defeat in a way that it's not a bad thing...merely a way of defining areas for improvement. As with much in life it not what we say or do, but the way we say or approach things that make a big difference.

This change is happening through improved and more supportive coaching across all sports, but will take time to permeate through the entire system.

Having said that; mental illness isn't (obviously) confined to sport and as such anyone that feels like taking their own life as a result of feeling low should be supported.
