Believe the Drinkwater deal could be a loan, so other options may not be available on loan and maybe because they view Drinkwater as a better player than the ones you have mentioned. Also availability. Is it known those players are available for those amounts? Gonzalo Castro has gone from Borussia to Stuttgart for 4 million a few weeks ago. Daniel Wass has gone from Celta to Valencia for 5 million. Junuzovic (a central midfielder with more than 10 assists every year in the Bundesliga) has left Werder Bremen for free to go back to his home country to RB Salzburg. Lewis Holtby is younger and much faster and is available as Hamburg have gone down. Same for the others. Consider Drinkwater a better player? Honestly, he had just 1 good year and in his team were Mahrez, Vardy and Kante. He was pretty modest before playing with these players, he's almost 29 and his feet are slowing down from what I've seen last year. And the fact that you can only get him on loan for 1 year.....what's the deal when you'd just adjust the first 11 team with him in it and then lose him next year? Or pay 15-20 million to get him for good?? Neither option being very good

Personally I'm not in favor of getting him would rather one of the other midfielders we have been linked with. But, we are not part of the clubs inner circle on transfers.

Neither option being very good I saw Drinkwater in a 2-2 draw at Selhurst and he was superb, won the ball and released it quickly a la Shaun Derry but when he released the ball it was in the right direction at the perfect pace, consistently, which may go a long way to explaining why lots of money was spent to get him - if we can get him affordably we should do - simples, if we can't get RLC back, but either would do very nicely thank you.

Unless Zaha is going to play centrally for sure, Drinkwater just is not a good fit. He can hit a good long ball but needs a Vardy-like player to be on the end of it. None of Benteke, Wickham or Sorloth seem to fit that profile He looks like one of those players who the buying club is lumbered with and unless they are prepared to cut their losses and he takes a drop in salary it will be seasons of minor cup games in store for him

Just want to point out something in this debate and with this I'm ending my reasoning: Drinkwater 15-20m Daniel Wass 5m Daniel Wass wonderful chip goal vs Real Madrid this season: Has Drinkwater done anything like this against a team like Real Madrid?

Matteo, I am not questioning your judgement on the player, as I don't know him as well as you. But where does the evaluation of £5 million come from? Is that what he is on the market for?

The thing is when premier league clubs come calling for players like these, their price doubles or triples.

Is that Steve’s tactic? Save our cash, get relegated, buy top players for a third of the price and win the league two years later? I am joking by the way!!

Why exactly would someone want Drinkwater, for whom Chelsea paid 30 million and will want to recoup at least half of that, instead of great accomplished players on the same position and of similar age, like Lewis Holtby, Daniel Wass, Gonzalo Castro, Junuzovic, de Guzman or Luca Zuffi, all available this summer for 5 million or less and better replacements for Cabaye?? Mattteo. You are wasted on here my friend. You should be bombarding Dougie and SP on Twitter.
