How things change, not far back when many of the opinions expressed on this thread would have been shouted down or pilloried.

Our global past enables much of the immigration anyway and this in conjunction with so many sub standard politicians results in discontent.

'I know lets allow mass immigration but without lateral thinking to see how this will affect the housing market and affect upon wages'.

Any person of any colour or creed would look to improve their lives or those of their families. That's common sense and human nature.

As someone of an earlier age I was watching PM questions this week and thinking that it reminded me of Uncle Mac who presented a programme called children's hour many years ago.

The asylum is run by out of touch people and it took a referendum to demonstrate the publics point of view, which perhaps should have differed from a remain or leave EU vote.

Perhaps a bit like this thread people who felt they could not speak have now found a voice.

Some of our best friends are immigrants but apparently if that comment is made in current stupid parlance you are a latent racist?

Sensible post.

Politicians are filtered. They are all scared of the media and hence all products of what the media allow. Though, to be fair, I think Corbyn is better than most on that score.

A party leadership should reflect its membership and I don't think the Tories have that.

Media impartiality , free speech and balance have been lost. Ages ago.

Ranks with a similar poster who was off to Dubai to escape the immigrants in the UK.

I’m with you. Rank hypocrisy.

I hardly think you need to live in Southall in order to comment on this thread. Largely, the immigration 'issue' is a European wide one. Probably should include the US too.
Obviously Canada, Australia and New Zealand have much stricter controls - does that mean they are more 'backward' or 'right wing' than Britain?
I would think many would think these countries would be better to live in than the UK - presumably living standards are higher in these countries?
Are they worried about future pensions? A red herring and could already be addressed by a different Pension system.
Somebody mentioned European immigration as better. I know that in Ireland the Poles have been embraced, although it has been found that child benefit is being sent abroad by these people. However, what about the latest wanted additions? I think the next country in line is Albania.

I'm reading 'the strange death of Europe' and truly it is staggering the incompetence and short termism that the politicians have inflicted upon Europe.

At no time did we have a figure strong enough to stand up and say, what is happening is madness. No Viktor Orbán for England unfortunately.

The English will become a minority in their own country by 2060 according to estimates. It already happened in London a long time ago.

At some point, no doubt, the name of the country will be changed because those who refer to themselves as English will not really remain the dominant demographic.

Probably be called ‘Oh my days’ or ‘Mandem’ or any other stupid nonsensical phrase you’ll hear on channel 4’s ‘The Big Narstie.’ I came home and saw Thandie Newton on it last week. Horrendous. Don’t complain if you’re unemployable sounding and speaking non English in England.

Depends on what they expect from their destination, and what they offer.

I’ve lived in Australia and spent a number of months the in NZ. I don’t think either country stand up to England yet. They’re chalk and cheese. But the immigration thing isn’t actually that much different even though the processes are. They have untold immigrants in Australia. Not all skilled and carefully selected. The whole country is pretty much Owned by the Chinese now as well. Another thing overlooked when held up as a beacon of how to run a countries immigration policy.

About 20 years ago I used to drink in The Red Back in Acton regularly enough as I shared a house with all Aussies and Irish. So I do get your point.
