Very interesting thread.

The bloke who lent the money knows he won't get it back,as they have borrowed from him before.

He did a good thing,he must have known the daughter for some time and his conscious is clear, not that he needed to justify anything.

The parents are another matter and have played on his heartstrings, knowing he can afford it.

Is it right,in my opinion no,the parents should have contributed to the funeral costs.

I feel slightly hypocritical with my stance.

I owe A Quick Game 2 a beer from 5 years ago. (not that he'd forget, or not remind me)
AQG2 has a massive world-wide property portfolio, expensive cars and bathes everyday in Crystal Champagne.
Whether he can afford to let the beer issue drop, is not the point. I have to repay (apparently, with interest)He is tighter than a gnat's chuff
If I don't repay next season (2018-19) I will be de-friended on HOL.
I am saving for next season. £££££

I think 7mins mate knows he's been done,...again.
As Becky says, I don't think it will stop there, what with the 'afters stuff'.

Interesting mix of issues

24th may I posted
The chickens have cone home to roost.
They are a pair of no good poncing users.
Your mate should tell them to f##k o##.
He has been totally done up the rectum.
Nelson has more chance of getting his eye back than your pal getting his dough.
This sort of thing really pisses me off.
Short story
A few users ago we had the pru type of pound note loan.
You know on the weekly.
Us; and inlaws had it as well.
We paid ours up then out of nowhere a knock at the door
We owe 2 large and no original paperwork with signatures but it was signed for.
Asked the question of in-laws who had the dough and surprise "no not us" was the answer.
We knew our signatures were forged but no proof.
Worst of it we were just getting a mortgage so couldn't do much than carry on for two more years.
I know what it's like to get rogered.
Moral being that at least your mate knows he's been done.
Had a chance not to be but soft heart and large bank account.
He is a nice bloke I'm sure and needs to find people who don't want him for what he has but who he is.

The last I heard was, they were going to pay him back £300 a month. They’ve asked to start in August. My friend knows he won’t get the full amount back... they live a hand to mouth existence. Everything they earn, they spend

I bet you pound to a pinch of s##t you are posting about a boiler or a car or a major issue they need dough for within 6 months and it will be they can't afford to pay him or they need more.
That's the red line I'm afraid.

Your friend is a kind soul, put in an awkward position. The old adage only lend what you can afford to lose, is very true.
I had a situation years ago, when a friend wanted to borrow £6,000 to ward off the bank taking his house back. When I pointed out he could sell his wife’s sports car, he said he couldn’t as she used it to go shopping and take the kids to school, I suggested she might like walking. He next move was I wasn’t using the money, but I had to point out, I didn’t need to contact my bank manager to ask when I am going to see my money again, as I would with him.
He managed to borrow off another friend, against advice. He then took his family on a skiing holiday and only paid half of it back after 6 years.
The problem with lending money is the power switches from you to the borrower, once you hand the money over.

I reckon we know the friend who we would lend to.
You don't have many true friends in life.
So for only one or two people I would break the rule as it would only ever be 100% genuine.
