Here is a story below of one infamous bloke. How exactly did his scam work ? i always had thought he bought a season ticket from London bridge to, say, Battersea - thus getting through the barriers in Zone One. And then bought another season ticket from his home in Rainham to somewhere 5 minutes away...thus getting through the barriers of his hometown. And he hid in the bogs whenever a ticket inspector walked up and down his train....only travelling at rush-hour when it was impossible for anybody to walk anywhere on a train. what other stuff has been reported in the newspapers...? kids jumping over barriers, adults masquerading as kids, fake wheelchair users etc etc. ps. this is an historical thread and strictly for the purposes of trawling over past historic events, lest they never happen again. Or this one. Never bought a ticket from his home and just scanned in at London Bridge, paying the maximum fare of £7.20 a day rather than whatever a season ticket costs. Then paid off £43K so he wasn't prosecuted and kept his anonymity. I personally think some train fares are extortionate, but fair play they got the money back on this one, even if he walked away £43K lighter, but still employed. “My experience of life is that it is not divided up into genres; it’s a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you’re lucky." |

Or this one which made me snort my teas through my nose. Need to stop googling this stuff and get back to work . . .

and of course if you're a professional footballer, a criminal record is meaningless and you can still get paid tens of thousands each week.

Edited by PalazioVecchio (22 May 2018 2.19pm) This article says the guy bought tickets using a stolen credit card, not sure how that relates to your subject body Anyway I was scamming it myself when I moved further out of London. At the end of the day the higher the fares the more fare evasion you create, although you don't condone bunking the train, we should have an affordable rail service, that's the root of the problem

once met a student type in the pub , he 'lived' in london. Told me when he didnt have a sofa to sleep on, he would use is inter-rail ticket to scotland and back just to get a decent night's kip. again, all totally legal.
