With Napoli's upset following the scudetto miss, maybe it's the right time to get players who want to leave. The coach Sarri has had a fallen out with the owner de Laurentis. He's on his way out. Along with him will leave very quick goalscorer Dries Mertens (recetly his release clause has droped to just 29 million with Man United favourites to sign him) and a few other players. The old gk Pepe Reina has already signed for AC Milan. Insigne is seen as one of the best attacking players in all of Europe and there are a lot of clubs interested in him. Not so many interested in Callejon though, because he is 31 and doesn't look like a prospect for the future.
But these 3 players (Mertens, Insigne and Callejon) have been spectacular in Italy:

Mertens: 53 goals from open play as striker and 31 assists (84 total) in the last 3 years in the Serie A and the Champions League (7900 minutes)

Callejon: 38 goals from open play as winger and 46 assists (84 total) in the last 3 years in the Serie A and European football (11000 minutes)

Insigne: 41 goals from open play as winger and 31 assists (72 total) in the last 3 years in the Serie A and European football (9800 minutes)

Notice that's 12 more goals or assists for Callejon than for Insigne, managed by the Spaniard in just 1300 more minutes. Both playing a similar position. And the Spanish player is a lot more helpful defensively than the fragile Insigne.

I wouldn't recommend any other winger over 30 yo. Ever. But Callejon is all muscle and will be very quick until his last days in football. He will surely play at the highest level until 35 or 36 (unlike other players whose feet can't run anymore past 32-33.) And he's very strong too. Out of the 3 up front for Napoli, he was definitely the most combative. He's the one who would most easily adapt to the tough English football.

Is he worth 19 million pounds (his release clause)? That's a big YES from me.
Would he come to Palace instead of going to AC Milan, the other team which really wants him this summer? He currently makes 2.7 million a year.

If we offer him 3.5 million a year for 3 or 4 years of contract, I think he would chose PL football instead of staying in Italy.

If I had to chose, say between him and Pedro (the recent thread about Pedro signaled that people would mostly want him but it would be near impossible for him to come to Palace), players of similar age, I'd go for Callejon. He's just much stronger and just as fast. He'd be much better defensively too.

He's Zaha level good, very similar in strength in my opinion. And to get a player of Zaha's value at just 19 million... Even though there won't be a resale value, the 18 million Callejon would cost would basically guarantee you many more years in the PL through his goals and contribution. So a lot of money coming back from PL participation alone.

I've seen him. He's rubbish.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
