Now this I agree with . Makes good business sense and more money available to strengthen in other areas. It depends how much Song wants for signing on fees and agents commissions, image rights etc. There is a fixation on transfer fees, but a “free transfer” can often be very costly indeed in comparison to the traditional way of purchasing players.

Your so called fixation on free transfers is because that is all we are allowed to sign until the end of the season

If you read the various other posts on transfers over the last few weeks, you will see there is a fixation on free transfers being free. There have been people suggesting that we can rebuild our team for next to nothing making cheap signings, including freebies and I have also fallen into the same trap on Guitia. Not quite free, but I read that the £35 million transfer of Sánchez actually cost £60 million when agents fees and signing on fees were taken into account. So we must take care when conflating free transfers with good business sense. That is all.

That is applied to all players, indifferent of the transfer fee. All will ask some money or salaries up front.

It is pretty usual for free agents to command a higher signing on fee than contracted players to reflect the fact that no transfer fee is payable. Thus a free player is not truly free and any analysis that is prepared on the basis that a free player is free is likely to be flawed. Mattteo, I am happy to talk with you on these matters, and I am pleased to apologise if I have previously offended you - but can you please lay off the swear words. I have a shared computer at home and your previous rude message was received by my young daughter.

All I used was a form of telling you to lay off my posts (maybe considered rude in some regions). Seemed pretty elegant to me considering what you deserved for our previous "talks". On topic: what a player demands can't be considered as much as a transfer fee. He can mostly demand something like a year's wages (at most). You can;t compare 1-2 millions to a transfer fee between clubs.

Mattteo, you told me to “p**s off”, but without the asterisks. It was picked up by Guntrisoft and deleted, but not before my daughter saw it. I am happy to leave it at that, but I don’t want a repeat. What a player demands depends upon what he, and his agent wants to make a transfer happen. I don’t have figures, but there is some fascinating stuff online about it which you can easily pick up by searching google. You might like to read it in the context of some of your other posts - it is up to you though - I wouldn’t dream of telling you what to do as you are obviously far more knowledgeable than me on many aspects of European football already.
