My point is that gaffes have been a feature of the team this season, not just of the goalkeepers, and something they all need to address. The fluffed scoring chances are the same problem: haste, poor composure, iffy decision-making.

Once again I agree. However some people are choosing to virtually ignore a horrific howler from Speroni, just because he is a club legend whereas, with Hennessey, they crow about every mistake to further their pathetic hatred. I dislike double standards.

Well someone doesn't like Hennesey or maybe Speroni but the "mistake" is just an excuse, and individual errors have been made by Wilf, Tekers, Milivojevic, Ward, Lee, van Aanholt, even Sakho FFS. The "mistake" isn't the problem, it's being used as an excuse to have a go when the real point is that the poster in question thinks the player is "generally cr@p". OTOH I can't think of any obvious error made by Puncheon but is it not the majority view that he is at least currently on poor form?

If he wants to say "Speroni / Hennesey / Dann etc. is s***e" let him, and let him back it up with evidence, but that one error, or any other, is not in itself evidence that a player is no good. Especially when we have a team-wide issue with individual errors which can be addressed by working on mentality, confidence, discipline and decision-making rather than by dropping one error-prone player and replacing him with another.

Absolutely nailed it.

Then I have descended. Speroni made a c*ck up. People who have hounded Hennessey for far less should admit it and then go on to the next match and support whoever is in goal.

Ah, but they are arguing that Hennesey is "generally cr@p", aren't they? He just doesn't happen to have been involved in a shambles like that goal last week. Doesn't mean it isn't a reasonable argument (although it isn't one with which I myself agree).

It is correct though that going on and on about it is futile. We should get behind whomever is selected because if there's one thing that's bound to make someone make a mistake it's getting on his back when he's trying to play football.

And Hodgson isn't stupid enough to drop a player pour encourager les autres.

It is also a reasonable thing to say that people should be even handed and admit that their favourite made a horrendous b*lls up as they would, without any doubt say, if Hennessey made the same error.

Can you help me out on the Niasse ref thread then?

Many don’t believe he did and feel that Dann had time enough to do something with the ball. As I say, I still haven’t it from the live incident and on the day I saw it as Dann getting mugged and was right in front of my line of sight in the stands. I would like to see it again if you have a clip and I will tell you my exact thoughts if you can fish a link up for me.

In all my years of supporting palace, I've never know anything like this hennessey /speroni debate. It's absolutely ridiculous. Hennessey had his chance and made mistakes, speronis now got his chance and has made mistakes too. Everyone agrees wecneed a new keeper, but this constant analysis and argument after every game is just getting boring now and should stop. Meanwhile, Benteke, who couldn't even hit the target from 12 yards with only the goalkeeper to beat gets away with very little critism. ....

Benteke’s miss was much worse than the Speroni/Dann incident. He scores that virtually open goal and we nick the three points. No doubt about it. As you say, people don’t have an agenda with him so it hardly gets mentioned. But as £30 million striker he should not be missing those.
There is a timeline to the whole Speroni and Henessey thing. And it starts with a few turning on Speroni. And ends with the same people having a go at a few trying to defend Speroni for being better than the player that had replaced him (unfairly in their eyes). It’s that simple really.

Many, many more think it was Speronis fault. I don't have a link unless you have Sky in which case this video at 1:43 would show the c*ck up. [Link] I didn't notice before but Sakho was in acres of space for Speroni to pass it out to if he really wanted to do so.
