Another Palace supporter has passed away.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends.

RIP.

RIP indeed.

Just to add to Willos post Tim was the gentleman who read out the scores at 4:50 on Grandstand for donkeys years with that wonderful fine vintage voice of his.

An important part of our youth and childhood for many of us. The thrill of waiting for the results because back in those days we didn't always have up to date scores nor commentary.

He also used to present Top of the Form on radio. He had one of those voices that would melt butter. Sad news for an oldun like me.

Apart from that great voice we also had that 'Teleprinter'.

And in those days one could see supporters leaving 'Selhurst Park' surrounding a chap with a transistor radio listening out for the scores.

RIP Tim.

I genuinely can say he was one of the reasons I fell in love with English football and went traveling to see games in the late 80-ties. Before the time of the internet and listening on MF, names like Preston North End or West Bromwich Albion would sound more exotic then any sunny island in the Pacific.
Never knew he was a Palace fan I shall admit, RIP.

Rip Tim Gudgin.
He read the Final Score results from 1995. The voice that us older HOLers associate with the Final Score of our childhood apparently belonged to Len Martin, according to my Googling. This link is from Grandstand in 1992, fast forward to 19.00 for those unmistakable tones.

As a Southerner my favourite name was always Hamilton Academicals, sounds like a team of university lecturers!

Yes, Grandstand with David Coleman standing alongside the tele-printer that chattered out the scores, and then Len Martin reading the classified results with his very distinctive intonations - without looking you knew straight away from the way he read out the home team score whether it was a home win, draw, or away win. Apparently he was actually Australian by birth.

I am pleased to see the clip you chose featured a heavy defeat for the weeds.
