Well, it seems that Trent Franks trawled his female staff members looking for a surrogate mother to whom he was willing to pay up to 5mm for her to carry his baby. While he wasn't specific about the process of impregnation - because his staff never got past the "f***, no!" stage of the conversation - Franks, being a stanch anti-choice luddite who doesn't believe in in vitro fertilization because it destroys embryos (at least he is consistent on this topic which is rare), was assumed to be intending the old fashioned way of getting up the duff. Anyway, he's gone.

Meanwhile, Al Franken gave a farewell speech to the Senate where he addressed the elephant in the room: the fact that he is leaving because of accusations that he doesn't necessarily accept, while Republicans are supporting a credibly-accused child molester for a Senate seat and defending a 19-time accused and self-admitted harasser-in-Chief.

Calls for the President to resign over this - while falling on entirely deaf ears, of course - are growing wider and louder.

Southwest Airlines over here, at least, still serves peanuts. I think European cut-price carriers make you pay to use the pisser, so I can't image them offering something as luxurious as free peanuts!

Three of Trump's 19 accusers held a press conference today, calling for Congress to investigate Trump's "history of sexual misconduct". [Link]

I don't know if this is something that's explained over there about how Congress works, but whichever party has the majority in either the chamber controls absolutely everything about that chamber's activities. They have the chairmanship and majority vote in every committee; they control what is brought to the floor and how; and, pertinently here, they control what the committees choose to investigate*.

Right now Republicans have the majority in both chambers, so they can chose to do, or not do, whatever they want. Therefore, it's going to be an interesting dynamic if Congress goes ahead an investigates Franken (and Moore, after he gets elected tomorrow) but not Trump.

* James Comey was Trump's choice to continue as head of the FBI (before firing him), and is a lifelong Republican. Robert Mueller - a lifelong Republican also - was appointed to be the Special Counsel investigating the Russian scandal by Rob Rosenstein, a lifelong Republican nominated to the Deputy AG position by Trump. The recent suggestion, that the Russia investigation is a partisan witch hunt is laughably bogus.
