We shouldn't blame Sam for wanting this job and he deserves a bloody good round of applause next time we see him.

He came in, he done his job and he would have stayed if we could support his very reasonable vision.

It wasn't a Harry Redknapp vision of lets spend 100 mil and definitely qualify for Champions League one season and get relegated the next.

It was address the obvious holes in the squad and give him just enough to achieve top 10. This would have probably been sign beat Bournemouth to the likes of Begovic and Defoe. That's it really and he was denied.

Imagine if Palace had added Rooney and Sigursson to our starting 11, I don't think you'd hear Sam complaining of stress but that's not something we can do.

It's a massive step-up as a club for Sam and he knows that repeating the survival thing this season, whilst frustrating, will lead to him being able to challenge for Champions League next season for the first time in his Managerial career.

That's exciting and I wish him all the best. Just to be clear I don't wish Everton the best and hope they finish below Palace but Sam deserves this chance.

We should have supported him more to complete his vision so we'd be sitting comfortably in 10th now.

Would that be the same Sam Allardyce that kept us up, against the odds, last season? Did you expect him do it for free? He had a break clause in his contract and chose to exercise it, for which I personally don't blame him. He let us down gently (and early); would you have preferred him to say "I can't work with the control freak that runs this club any longer"?

I have no issue with Sam Allerdyce taking another job, its been a reasonable amount of time, we stayed up and didn't suffer unreasonably as a result of his decision (unlike Pulis who had been signing players and walked out two days before the start of the season).

Nothing wrong with being mercenary. He knows what he's good at, and invariably long term teams let him go. Pay him is bonus (we stayed up and he got us playing). That Frank De Boar couldn't do the job isn't Allerdyces fault, and nor is it his fault the time it took to bring the new manager in.

Big Sam taking a job at a struggling prem club in early November.. ....exactly what I predicted on here. And got crucified by some of you cynics who defended his wish to retire.

Once a football manager , always a football manager.

Exactly. How foolish were we. Defoe only costing £10m plus a reported £8m signing on fee. What were we thinking missing out on the 34year old like that? And he has been doing so well for Bournemouth

Well said. Thank you Sam for the Houdini act in keeping us up. Yourself and pulis were correct to pursue your ambitions at clubs with a modicum of stability. Palace doesn't deserve the loyalty of a top manager.

it's the lies about his reasons for leaving us that grate on me. In fact, they don't grate because it's no more than I expected as he's shown his colours before. Yes he's proved what he can do as a football manager, can do a job no doubt, but I don't respect him as a man he's clearly a lying money-grabber. If the situation at Palace wasn't right for him then just say so rather than leave us to believe there are some personal reasons and get everyone feeling sorry for him

Hardly going to get managers in demand knocking at the door for the job is it?

I have an issue with managers expecting/demanding more than whatever the affordable and rule abiding budget is. Let's say £40-45 mil. But then I obviously have an issue with a chairman who thinks it's wise to time and again provide much less than is available, needed, and then used, and some in January.

What is he likely to have said he needed? 1 CB, 1 striker and probably 1 keeper minimum. What have we paid out for? 2 CBs. What are we in need of and Freedman scouting? Strikers, possibly keepers (and it looks like another Turk who might be a replacement for Cabaye if he goes and Ward).

We need to be in a position of doing what's required when a manager knows it will be soon, not after the event. Managers then might stay, our league position may be safe and stadium and infrastructure plans may progress. Until then we're in this cycle, and if we break that cycle then the not quite good enough players we may be able to sell (not including Sako, Mutch, lee).

What reception do you think he will get ?

Deserves a good one.

Sky now saying he's not first choice. Want him until the end of the season if they can't attract a big name.

Hopefully they'll get a big name because that's exactly what they don't need. What they need is someone who'll get them out of the s***, because the s*** is definitely what they are in. You would think though that anyone vaguely competent ought to be able at least to keep them up. Not that all managers are vaguely competent, of course.
