I wish Roy would put players on the posts when defending corners. It was highlighted perfectly over the weekend with Chelseas goal which would have been cleared and the in the Saints Toon game where in added time a Saints player cleared one off the line. Jimmy Mac used to do the job and cleared two or three off the line in the past

I agree. Would make a big difference.

It would make a significant difference if the players marked the opposition properly in the first place and stayed with them whatever they do and wherever they go until the corner is cleared.
Not stand really close, next to an opposition player and then find that they have moved, won the header and scored without even a challenge leaving some of our defenders in splendid isolation whilst everyone looks around at them wondering why!
Bakayoko's header was so soft and should have firstly been prevented by proper man to man marking. That's where I would start!

Yes a man on the post may have helped but we really need to sort out the set piece marking first!

Did you not see where Jimmy Mac was standing for that corner/goal? Then the resulting conversation between hm and Speroni ?

Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan

i remember Lewington never put a man on the post when he was joint manager and it cost us 2 identical goals against Oldham once in about 10 minutes.

Maybe he's influencing RH.

Southampton cleared one off line in last minute by Davis having the common sense to go back on the post when the ball cleared him on the front post. Shouldn't be too hard for us to do the same.

The Man City goal last year still gives me nightmares!!!

We were awful defending corners in the 1st half - conceding one goal and very nearly a second. We did improve in the 2nd half though and I suspect Roy had a word or two at half-time.

He was standing in the six yard box marking space and followed the path of the ball into the net. If he had been on the post he would have cleared it easily. Food for thought for Roy

Yep... if I had to pick one negative to our superb performance on Saturday then it was our ability to defend corners. Chelsea got 1 goal and could quite easily of had another 2 from corners.

Hopefully it's been picked up by RH. Our defending for there goal was a bit of a joke. 3 of them just stood there staring open mouthed at Bakayoko like he was the messiah when he jumped to nod it in.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

I think that was one where a player on that post would have cleared it but I remember some analytics guy saying in general it is not the best policy

If you guard both posts that leaves less to cover opponents and may lead to a clear chance for someone unmarked. But these are not the ones that get commented on

Also players can impede goalies and I have definitely seen occasion this season when player on post has not been able to cover one if too hard hit/high

A man on the post also plays everyone onside so you can't spring the trap if they win second ball.
