I am not quite sure what your point is here.

Guy gets the chance to play in Premiership and opts for Serie B mid-low finishing team. That says a lot of the player concerned.

The guy has scored goals for AC Milan, Parma, Fiorentina and Italy - he has over 50 caps. He is at the end of his career, probably his last contract so he clearly wanted it to be 2 years rather than one. His decision is a very sensible one.

If we were refusing to budge in offering him only a 1 year deal (which is just speculation) then this would be another very poor decision (imo). We are in desperate need for a striker and so quite rightly the player can name his terms.

Even if we don't need him next season, it can't hurt to have such an experienced pro who has played at the highest level around the training ground helping out our young strikers.

2 year contract seemed like a no-brainer.
