So he did interfere and not leave it to his manager. Which cannot be disputed. Wasn't disputing that bit, just that it wasn't about liking the agent - just not wanting (correctly) to pay him. Personally think he had the right idea with agents, but difficult to maintain that stance when no-one else will back you up.

Not sure that's entirely correct either. The Cahill deal failed because SJ wouldn't pay the agent's fees as he was working for the player, not the club. SJ, quite rightly, said that Cahill should pay the agent, so they trooped off to Goodison where I guess they had a different view . . . That deal was never going to happen Millwall/ Cahill used us to flush out Everton.

Jordan said last week he was really about to sign Cahill, it was going through etc. Edited by Rudi Hedman (22 Sep 2017 3.50pm)

Agents either work for the club, or for a player. If they're the clubs agents, sure they should be paid for by the club, if they're the players agent, then they should be paid out of the players end. Same as every other industry.

Ignoring the posts which clearly deserve to be ignored (if not censured), it’s surely ironic that the man who brought our club to the brink of extinction should now be a commentator on its activities. Yes, he’s a fan and he pumped a lot of money into the club he supported, but if it hadn’t been for the Consortium he might very well have been the man who consigned the memory of Crystal Palace FC to the history books. This with bells on. Great post.

There were a number of things memorable from the Jordan era but very few weee football related. My personal favourite being 'the futures bright ...the chairmans orange' and also had a great chuckle when it turned out that his girlfriend was none other than a highly paid lady of the night.

SJ, quite rightly, said that Cahill should pay the agent, so they trooped off to Goodison where I guess they had a different view . . . This is my recollection, too. Whilst SJ’s arrogance annoys me, the Cahill issue doesn’t seem to me to be in conflict with the views he expressed on the Debate about the owner-manager relationship. He clearly says that the manager decides which players he wants and the owner signs the cheques. So if the price is too high for whatever reason, it’s the owner’s decision. I was so sorry that we didn’t manage to sign Cahill. I thought he would have seriously improved a team that was already pretty good and would have been a very good fit. But it was SJ’s call and he called it as he thought best.
