But there are things we can do to improve our situation. We can step away from this wing-backs nonsense and play a strategy that suits us and works for us. We can get a striker in on a free or in the winter window with the money we would have spent on Niasse. We can get our injured players back at some point. One of the reasons we are where we are is because we have been experimenting (unwisely), and fixing that is a case of phoning de Boer up and telling him to stop it FFS, which we have done. We can bring in a player who is a proper leader and organiser, which we are doing (Sakho). Ultimately we could dump de Boer and go with someone else. And of course we can now drop Puncheon because we have better midfielders now. Wet Spam have spent a bundle of cash in the window and they're still s***e. And unlike us they've been playing their established system with their established manager and their "best" players. Would someone else do better than Bilic? I don't know what the problem is there but I'm not sure it's (only) him.

I see where you are coming from alas we were fortunate last season that Benteke played throughout the season without injury. He only has to fall foul of injury to put him out for a period of time and then we will be relying upon Dann...given Wickham being likewise prone to life on the first aid bench.

There's are currently no teams who are even close to being as bad as we are.

I think you will find West Ham are officially worse than us, but having played all their games away from home they have some mitigating circumstances.

Worst thing about where we are now is that I am no longer confident of 6 or even 4 points from Brighton, or even finishing above them. I really hope we see some improvement soon, or we are bang in trouble

Us and Brighton bottom 2. Then maybe Newcastle or Huddersfield for the last place.

Hmmmm...it's not just the squad, manager instability will play a large part in determining the bottom 3 or 4. I reckon Benitez is bound to go, Bilic too, and for me that makes Toon and the Hammers likely to lurk in the bottom 3. We are certainly in danger unless FdB finds an approach that works, or he will also be off and we will have another period of readjustment. Brighton will struggle to get goals and so will bounce around the bottom, but in Hughton they have a stability and will probably improve. Bournemouth whilst not impressing so far also have that stability in Howe. There is also likely to be one other club hitting a bad run of form, and with Drinkwater gone and Mahrez bound to go in Jan could it be Leicester?
