The next game will show us how good FDB is, and how much he understands premier league footy. Agreed. I won't whinge if we lose it (I mean we'll be the underdogs anyway) provided we show signs that lessons were learnt from the first game. Maybe not ALL the lessons, just that something has hit home.

On reflection the result Saturday, could be a blessing in disguise. If we had won, due to Huddersfield being poor, we would of carried on playing in this fashion. That crossed my mind for the second time in recent months. The last time was Sunderland, and I think we'd all agree Sunderland was a wake up call. So I hope you are right and this is just this year's "Sunderland" game come nice and early and with the window fortunately still open.

Quote from the Guardian. ... The Dutch an needs his existing players to learn quickly. The way he gesticulating at then to hit long passes to escape Huddersfield pressing suggested he found their attempted application of the ajax pholosophy to splistic. "You have to recognise when you have to play it on the ground and when you don't" h said. So he's not expecting them to play it out all the time. If teams are pressing them he wants to play more direct. But the players are too bloody thick to know when to pass short or long. I'm sure he was suprised by that, and hopefully drill it onto them before Saturday when there's no doubt we will get pressed high again.

This was always going to be a project. FDB cannot change Palace in a relatively short space of time to playing 3-4-3. Everyone needs to step back and give FDB and the squad a break and their support and encouragement not derision and abuse.

I have no issues with 'the project' but it's a 3 year project not 4 months, do it gradually, implement it slowly and don't be a stubborn mule.

IF the players can learn to mix it up then the nut will be cracked. My fear is some players are too limited in their thinking and will not be able to get their heads round it!

Gradually was said by Parish so something has gone wrong. Be interesting if it continues to fail how long Parish puts up with it after the 'gradual' comments and sticking with Pardew. Interesting Frank has only played 3-4-3 once at Inter in his very last game before sacked. Now big managers at bigger clubs are playing it he's come here determined to play it before assessing the players yet saying they're suited for it, only needing to play 3 newbies and needing another 2/3. Hopefully the suspicion of bullsh1t doesn't ring true and we're not cut adrift from here into 10+ games in. Edited by Rudi Hedman (14 Aug 2017 6.43pm)

The booing and the writing off after one game are ridiculous, but I do have reservations about 3-4-3. IMO we are ideally suited to 4-3-3 with Luka doing the Jedi in front of the centre halves and RLC and Cabaye in front of him. No room for Punch, but unless he starts passing forward and picking out the runs he doesn't deserve a place.
