I understand the negativity about playing players out of position, but I don't think it's as simple as that. Better to be master of a trade than a jack of all or 'utility player', but that's not what FDB seems to be recruiting - far from it, in Riedewald we now have a specialist left sided centre half who can play left back (not such a massive change) - if we get injuries he can also do def mid - the same with Fosu Mensah who specialises on the right side (although he is left-footed apparently) - I remember Venables saying for 3 at the back it's better to have one centre half and two tallish full backs than three centre halves - bringing Luka in temporarily to the defence is no different to what the likes of Eric Dier, Ledley King and Phil Jones have done down the years - and if players have genuine versatility and are not 2nd rate in a number of positions then they can swap positions during a game when they need to. I remember when Beckham and Anderton were right sided midfielder and right wide man for England under Hoddle, Beckham loved coming inside and Anderton would replace him on the wing - it was devastating - if Townsend (or whoever the right wb turns out to be), Fosu and one of our def mids can rotate on the right side, and Riedewald, Schlupp and Luka/Cabaye/Loftus are able to do the same on the left that would create real problems for whoever we're playing. So not mad (if it works).

He seems to want to play everyone out of position and plays the let's pass the ball around till we lose it game Hopefully its temporary whilst we sign players. Not having Luka our best midfielder playing in his correct position is mental and a bit disrespectful to him. Hopefully fosu-mensah will play rcb freeing up Luka to play midfield.

I think we are going to draw a lot of games this season. The system seems quite defensive and we dont create many chances. Benteke has been very isolated at times and found it difficult to get into games hopefully with a tweak or two it will get more offensive

It's all basic 3-4-3 stuff. It's a formation that needs fluidity meaning players may need to fill in for others as moves build or even break down. The Dutch do not school players in just one position but look to educate them in the other roles close to their natural one - TFM even said so in his interview earlier. Look at FdB's signings: RLC has played DM, AM, 10 and even as a second striker. He's clearly looked at who in the squad can also swich if needed & has tried them out in preseason just to be sure. IMHO, it's a case of FdB getting them to gel & to buy into the plan - ok, a couple more signings would make me more comfortable but it already looks promising.
