Plenty of penalties aren't cycnical fouls though, I can see the logic in saying that if you've given a team a free shot at goal for an accidental trip then that is it.

However, the other side of the coin is that referees would HAVE to make sure that keepers stay on their line properly for that one shot.

I agree on both counts but then, as I said, I think that a lot of fouls in the box shouldn't be penalties to start with. Only give a penalty when the foul denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity - this would be anywhere on the pitch - otherwise, all other fouls in the box are a free kick at the spot of the foul with the penalised team able to defend the kick.

For example, I hate that a light shove on a player facing away from goal is rewarded with a free shot from 12 yards; how is that fair? Meanwhile, rugby-tackling a forward clean through on goal - before he reaches the box - gets a red card, of course, but the "reward" of a free kick outside the box with a wall in front is only "fair" if you have Sigurdsson in your team; otherwise, it's little recompense for the opportunity denied.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Does anyone realise that on Number 11, the GOAL-LINE stretches from corner flag to corner flag ACROSS the field of play.

Just saying

That's a good spot. The law would have to read "hand ball on the goal line that prevents a goal from being scored, specifically a ball going over the line, between the goal posts and under the cross bar of the goal."

Spot on. Leave the game as it is. It works. Don't start messing about with the rules like they do with rugby union. That's become a stop - start boring sport. Also no video reviews. Holds up the game. Refs making mistakes are all part of it and gives us lots of lovely reasons to despise them..

It's not like the game has been continuously evolving for the last 150 years is it...

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Sounds like a load of hair brained rules to make the game more punchy and sellable to foreign markets such as USA where they've been trying desperately for decades to crack open that big egg of money, money, money.

Surprised one of the rules isn't "make te goals 4 metres wider and 1 metres taller to allow higher scoring" or simply just "get rid of goalkeepers"

FYI, "soccer" has well-and-truly cracked the USA market. It's huge here now. The Premier League is the 800lb gorilla, but the domestic leagues are growing in support (but not quality, unfortunately) while we get regular doses of Bundesliga and La Liga stuff too.

This is all in addition, of course, to the raft of futbol from south of the border shown on Spanish language channels.
