Agreed thought the ref was very good today. Agreed, although I am still a little perplexed about the offside not given for Arsenal's first goal. I understand that Ramsey didn't touch the ball, but he was active - at least for a while - and the entire Chelsea team stopped because the linesman flagged and Ramsey was offside by a country mile. Yes, you have to play to the whistle - so Chelsea have no one but themselves to blame for switching off - but the goal was allowed to stand even after a consultation with the assistant. I much prefer the active / inactive test over the old, nebulous, "interfering with play" test. But the idea that a player can go after the ball - especially in such a crucial location - and then be not offside by dint of stopping just before actually touching it, makes no sense to me. I rarely call for a tightening of the offside rule (I get annoyed that assistants never give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker which they are supposed to do), but the "not playing the ball" test is too far, IMHO.
We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |
