Almost certainly not terrorism Michaela, and hopefully an accident. On what we have been told so far though, it is an incident.
Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link] |

The latest from New York. The incident at Times Square yesterday was NOT an act of terrorism. NYPD arrested and charged 26 year old Richard Rojas of The Bronx with at least 2nd Degree Murder, attempted murder and other lesser offenses. Preliminary findings allege that Rojas was driving under the influence of marijuana laced with PCP, according to newspaper reports. Earlier, synthetic marijuana was reported as the intoxicating agent. Ramos is scheduled to be arraigned in New York County (Manhattan) Supreme Court today but that may be delayed until Monday. In New York, Supreme Court is the trial court, first appeals are heard by the Appellate Division and the New York State Court of Appeals is the highest Court in the state. For those not familiar with New York, Times Square is where Broadway and 7th Avenue cross. It extends between West 42nd and 46th Streets and Broadway is a pedestrian mall. The area between 45th and 46th Streets is known as Duffy Square in honor of the famous US Army Chaplain for the 69th Infantry Regiment (New York) who was portrayed by Pat O'Brien in the movie "The Fighting 69th." The half price TKTS booth for Broadway shows is there. Since Thursday is not a matinee day, the booth doesn't open until later in the afternoon. Had this happened on Wednesday there would have been thousands more people there. According to police, Ramos drove south along 7th Avenue to 42nd Street, turned around and drove along the western sidewalk of 7th Avenue until he ran into permanent protective bollards for the northern end of the pedestrian mall. (see the diagrams in the attached links.) As you can see, Broadway is the diagonal street while 7th Avenue runs straight. All vehicles wanting to go through Times Square must go southbound on 7th, there is no northbound route. The car bombing incident mentioned earlier occurred several years ago and was aimed at the U.S. Military Recruiting Station located on an "island" between 43rd and 44th Streets just south of where Broadway & 7th Avenue cross.
