If you look at the fixtures we have now, you couldn't of blamed Sam for wanting to beat Leicester so badly after getting back to 2-2 that he gambled and pushed everyone forward. Instead, he respected the point. Now that point looks massive with us sitting on 38. But like I say, with minimal winnable games left and fan pressure, you wouldn't of blamed Sam for risking losing that one. Man Utd however was months ago and Pardew must have known that getting several draws would have given us a good points total even if we wanted more wins. A point against United and it may have saved his job but he got carried away and went for it. Madness. Not the only result against Man U that he failed to close out, of course. Dances nicely, though.

I said at the time that I thought that was a superb transfer window and never backed down on that. I was worried about Townsend lasting about 2 games before he went down the loo. But this is nail on the head, Pardew could've signed Lionel Messi but he'd have played him in the central defence and subbed him for Bakary Sako at half time. Great signings but some of us said that we were between halfway and 70% there. Upon saying this we were shouted down for being ungrateful or being unrealistic and unfair whilst net transfer spend was £10 mil. Then we 'didn't understand how contracts work and it's measured over the length of the contract', only for us to go out and spend the going rate for 3 permanent players in January that we needed all along. Or it was 'they're working really hard to get the players we need but can't get the deals done.' Yeah right. Can't get them done when they're needed but can when they're again needed and prices are possibly inflated. Parish takes some blame but Pardew deserves most blame for his acquiescent relationship with Parish in the same way with Ashley. Pardew got the 8 year contract at Newcastle and the 5 year one here. There's a trend going on here. Job security before the team, but when he's at his peak he courts himself for the best jobs in the country and elbows anyone with equal or better knowledge and ability. He got what was coming by his own foolish design. There's one difference in those 2 relationships. No transfer responsibility at Newcastle. If he kept Ben Garner to cover his squad management ineptitude after those new signings have their feet comfy he might still be here. Edited by Rudi Hedman (26 Apr 2017 1.05pm)

True and I believe you are right about the left-back. I know Pardew gets pilloried for some of his signings but he did sign Townsend,Cabaye and Benteke and they have been major influences in recent weeks, albeit under Allardyce. Pardew clearly has taste when he goes shopping but when he gets home he doesn't know what to do with the purchases!

He was lucky Benteke and Townsend became available where he could see them but he didn't look at the huge number of possibilities Sam looked at in January and didn't have enough options when failing to replace Jedinak, for instance or cover at left back. He wouldn't have known where Serbia even was.

This. Pardew may have bought these players (Benteke, Cabaye and Townsend) but under him they were not playing half as well as they are now under Sam. What's to say the same wouldn't have happened with the players he bought in January. Townsend is in the press today saying that his (and the team's) resurgence is because they are training properly and weren't fit before. Pards did ok in the transfer market, but he didn't know what he was doing on the training ground. (Remember when he admitted that the team demanded additional time spent on defending set pieces because we were a sieve at the back?)
We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

Returning to the subject matter of the thread, this was a hideous foul that fully merited a red.
The right place at the right time |
