He played last Saturday. So that puts the lid on that little theory. When he Starts we rarely win, that better for you? I'm sure some nerd can put up some stats!

Good pro puts it in every game he plays just short of the quality we need as back up but if we go down would be ok. Not as good as Ward at right back but he may be needed in a back five/six if we get any more injuries.

I've seen that he signed a new deal before pardew left the club. Apparently he's not out of contract athe end of the season. Anyone know about this for sure.

Kelly's decent enough. Ideally he'd be back up...but got no problem relying on him in the CB position.

I just feel, obviously judging on the 2 pre season games that the player that played in the centre has impressed. 1st game - Rcb Ward , cb- dann -stand out performer Lcb - Delaney 2nd game Rcb - Luka , cb Kelly- the best permonance of back 3, Lcb Delaney. Are the Rcb and Lcb more of specialist positions, like you have to be able to be comfortable drawn out wide. Whereas Delaney clearly not.

Early last season Conte was asked why he played Cahill, Luiz & Azpilicueta out of position & that was part of the reason he gave. Luiz is 2 footed so best central, Cahill is right footed & 'Dave' has played much of his career at left back so both of the these are able to force attackers wide when they're covering for wingbacks. His assertion was that by doing this it gave time for other players to get back & fill in the gaps. Clearly both sides of the three need reasonably quick, strong defenders with fantastic discipline - the quicker the better. This kind of rigid, disciplined set-up may suit Kelly who did look better under Sam once he'd drilled the defence.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

If two new CBs do actually sign for Palace in this window then obviously his chances would be more limited, but certainly at the moment would be unwise to sell him.
