I'm a proper liberal, don't read the Guardian because I find it preachy and slightly simplistic but other than that I would cover most of the tick boxes for liberal . I see nothing wrong in being liberal it means I seek to understand the motivation and rational of others, what makes a 52 year old family man drive a car at random strangers on bridge in the name of Allah what makes someone murder people on summer camp for a greater Norway. Trying to understand doesn't mean condoning it means trying to stop it happening again.

I didn't say they have no intelligence, just not enough intelligence to express their opinion without swearing. How can the truth be a sort of personal abuse?

Ah! nicely swerved. Respect.

I agree that swearing is unnecessary.
Those sort of people are just c***s.

Because some people are uncomfortable with, or blind to, the truth and hide their stupidity behind being 'offended' which, these days, puts the lid on pretty much everything.

Aint that the truth.

My take: some people are so sure of what they think the truth is that, if you give a counterpoint, they think you don't understand their 'truths'.

You do...you just disagree with them.

A lot of things, when you really really debate them, ultimately hinge on INTERPRETATION of really small details and you don't get that far saying 'well you think this but I think that' over and again.

I tend not to bother with all that because I'm not wedded to a political ideology (because I think such ideology exaggerates the power of poltics).

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Anyone on here who tries to deny my right to be offended & to offend can f*** right off.

This isn't a safe space.

We live in the free world, people can air their views as they please. There is a world of difference in expressing a view as an opinion and expressing a view directly at someone in an offensive manner.

Unfortunately, there are some people on this site, who want to ram their views down other people throats, if you then reply with an opposing view, the outcome is usually to be called a w***er or c**t. Which brings a smile, as they haven't the intelligence to exchange views in a civilised way.

Thankfully the person dishing out those insults got himself red-carded and deserved to go much earlier.

Yep and all that's fine because that's what a forum for debate contains...different viewpoints expressed with differing amounts of passion.

As long as no one is swearing or advocating violence it's a good thing. There are forums that allow that kind of wild west interaction and that's fine for those that want it....Well maybe not the violence.

I'm not on here as much as I'd like anymore but when I do come on I'm always glad to see the views of people I agree with but also those I don't. Nick and Jamie, for example, are stewards and bring up interesting points. I like to see diverse views and robust debate. Sometimes I learn something, sometimes my viewpoint is altered and sometimes doubled down.

People who come onto public forums looking for a 'pass the sugar' discussion are going to be somewhat disgruntled.

They need to look for a forum that heavily shapes and censors viewpoints as obviously that's their preference. Just as long as they don't force those who don't want that environment to shape themselves as well.
