The Arsenal games,I went to both, didn't remember them being in the same week.I remember the league cup game. The first goal was a pen, if I remember correctly Arsenal were attacking and the ball was around the halfway line. Gerry Queen and the Arsenal goalie were having a bit of a argument and Gerry ended up on the floor. Was a bit weird because most people were watching the action (football) in the other half. The second was a nice shot from Taylor (not Colin ,the other one). It happened right in front of me. Ian Ure came in and upended Queen for no apparent reason other than perhaps to "protect" his keeper. Still one of the strangest things I have seen on a football pitch
I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals. |

A slight "buffer" but we are still in a real battle to avoid the drop. There will be a few twists and turns until the end and we are in 'squeaky bum' territory.

The pivotal game for us is Hull. Forgetting all other games for a moment (if possible!) a win against Hull puts us 7 points ahead of them (and 9 points ahead of Boro and 11 points ahead of Sunderland). Therefore, from their other 8 matches, Hull would need 8 points PLUS whatever points we pick up from our other 9 matches to overhaul us. Surely even the most ardent Holmesdale pessimist wouldn't expect us to lose all 9 of those games, but I reckon as few as 4 or 5 points from those 9 could be enough (beat Burnley, draw with Leicester and Southampton?). Of course this is a completely academic analysis, given that the Hull game is the penultimate one, and "lots could happen" before then to make Palace v Hull a classic "squeaky-bum" occasion! Also, Boro and/ or Sunderland could of course go on an Oldham, Leicester or Sunderland-esque end of season run (except I can't see it myself). And we might NOT beat Hull of course. However, I am optimistic that enough points can be harvested...and that not many points will actually be needed.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

There's 8/9 games before the hull game. It likely that they will beat a poor West Ham side on Saturday, with us likely to lose to Chelsea. Then the gap only a point. We just need to focus on ourselves. We need to achieve 8 pts. Where ever we get them.

I get the point about the Hull game. YT is saying that if we win that one they have a net 7 points to make up on us across the rest of them. (8 with GD). He's not going saying the rest don't matter but that that one could swing the season dramatically in either club's favour.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
