A basic understanding of the rules of the sport we all follow would help when on a discussion forum, and knowing that when a player goes down and requires treatment he has to go off the pitch. Otherwise what is the point of discussion? I didn't realise I had to spoon-feed.

Next time I'll try to make it so indisputable and dead-ended that no replies or thinking are required.

and maybe just maybe, the guy that asked the question wasn't at the game, so wasn't aware that anyone was off the pitch at the time we scored?

Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan

I'd forgotten about Everton. I think we had 2 draws against them last season, but we definitely were a man up against them and failed to score or win.

Is this the match you were talking about jeeagles? [Link]

McCarthy got sent off at 52nd min, and we were pretty much all over them, if I remember rightly. On a side-note, that was one of Emmanuel Adebayors appearances, coming on in the 2nd half so maybe no surprise we didn't score..

Christ, it wasn’t exactly some obscure nerd fact. It was a major talking point in our game 3 days ago.

Not so because it can, and has, happened that a player can be too seriously injured that he has to have treatment ON the pitch.

Ahaa, but that player would still have to leave the pitch after receiving some treatment, and we wouldn't have been allowed to take the freekick with Niang still sobbing and rolling around.

Do you travel to matches from Penzance PZ Eagle?! That's one hell of a journey if so! Beautiful part of the World and really off topic but The Pirates Of Penzance was excellent at the Minack Theatre about 20 years ago. The Pirate boat sailing into the sunset was like the end of Goonies! 10/10

Thank you Beastie. I was beginning to question if I was actually a bigger nerd than I thought

Should I then have to make a caveat that my posts & threads are for the reading; commenting; replying or making humorous quips by only those who are aware of what I speak of? Either way, I did answer the chaps' question.

Maybe (just maybe) rossboss wasn't at the match - Ignoring the fact one is probably more likely to notice this kind of thing on a TV screen with commentary instead of 'live' during the heat of battle. If that's the case then, someone who wasn't at the match or paying much attention to the online stream has managed to add more to this particular discussion with one open-ended question than you have with your two antithetical replies. But seeing as I didn't add the afore-mentioned caveat to my original post, you're well within your rights.

Yes agreed that a seriously injured player would have to leave the pitch after treatment but then play would, as you say, been suspended until that happened.

I haven't been to a Palace home match since my mum left Croydon after my Dad died but did go up to Plymouth for a couple which we lost. Used to be a Friend of the Minack and loved going to shows but getting a bit old now to sit on a cliff and climbing up to get out after the show. If I won the lottery I would fly up for home games but then if wishes were horses beggars would ride!.

It would seem that since promotion we have been 'awarded' 8 red cards, with none so far this season, and only 2 of those being straight reds - KG and Yannick.

2013/14
KG v Man U (away) lost 2-0
Bolasie v Hull (away) won 1-0

2014/15
Murray v West Ham (away) won 3-1
Jedinak v Sunderland (home) lost 3-1
Delaney v Chelsea (home) lost 2-1 (+ C.Azpilicueta red)
Puncheon v Arsenal (away) lost 2-1

2015/16
Gayle v West Ham (home) lost 3-1
Souare v Watford (home) lost 2-1

From that alone you can see that 3/4 of the times we lose a player, we lose the match, and that is only away from home. Does this highlight the additional pressure we put on our team to win when we are a man up, or is it just coincidence?

The amount of times we lose with a man over does not seem to correlate with oppositions' reds, but I'm struggling to find any solid stats regarding opponents' teams' reds though and the resultant score-lines.

Oh ok. I assumed you meant a watford player was sent off. Just to clear up i watched on an online stream, and was aware Niang was injured when the goal was scored just didn't connect that for what you were saying. What i was more happy with was that the foul that led to the goal was Pudl trying to get back at zaha for his earlier punch/throw, which directly led to our goal through a deeney own goal. Comedy gold.

Very much so. All too often it has been Wilf who gets more wound up and gets cautioned, hopefully BigSam can point this out to him. ..mind you, his arm swing at Prödl could've been treated very differently.
