Him coming off the bench with fresh legs and not getting tired out is a marked imprivement in closing games out compared with Ledley, say, and is possible with Cabaye and Milivojevic available. Compared with the Pardew era of shipping goals after having to take McArthur off. THIS! Pardew left our midfield wafer thin. Sam has beefed it up. We are a better team as a result, and the results are bearing that out.
We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

Drop Puncheon! I would possibly have agreed a month ago, but this mini-resurgence has definitely convinced me otherwise. Whilst we're used to seeing Jimmy Mac in the heart of midfield, and he's been an unsung hero in many games, Punch offers more of a threat going forward - just look at the WBA match, where he's having a go from in and around the box with regularity. Now that we've got Luka, Punch has got a bit more freedom to roam. Having JM on the bench is brilliant - and if Cabaye goes back to forgetting how to play, he's a more than capable replacement.

Jimmy hasn't been dropped due to form and I'm sure he knows that if not told so, which I reckon Sam would do. He makes sure there's communication going on in his squads. I read that if a player isn't pulling his weight he makes sure the captain and 1 or 2 strivers get him to up his game. Really surprising how 2 underperforming players in Townsend and Punch improve significantly and one just about delivering in Cabaye as well yet one of 2 our most consistent performers in Jimmy is dropped/rested/ready for later or when required. Nobody saw all of that coming. I expect we've become so used to the same team all season.

Yeah and wouldn't be surprised to see Punch rested for big games with 3 tackling interceptors in the middle with Punch coming on later if needed. Bold decision making.

Since hes been here im sure Sam would have watched footage of every goal we have conceded and he would have noticed that in three home games Macca lost his runner who scored each time. Lanzini(W Ham) Can(Liverpool) and Toure(City) he may feel that he doesn't track back well enough
