for my own part.....25 years working in the city. Living on the Palace triangle. Arrived disinterested in football, caught the Palace bug and the rest is history. many factors influenced the decision to leave. House prices had a big part to play. also family stuff and the feeling that London is for the twenty somethings to enjoy. I may no longer live there, but i will always be an Eagle, love the good bits of South London and hate Brighton. Will always hate Clattenburgh. It all feels a little weird that my former hometown becomes my tourist venue on match-days. Any other Eagles making or made the transition ? how strange is it going back and realising that the place is trundling along just fine without you ? how strange to see every second shopfront changing hands at a speed that is breathtaking. Love Palace. From near or far.

I moved away nearly 20 years ago, now marooned in Kent, I'm within sniffing distance of Gillingham's ground, but as you say palazzo, you never change your colours!!

Spent the first 10 years of my life in Thornton Heath and by that point the damage was done. Was still in Croydon or Sydney for the rest of my childhood. Last few years I have been in north london, just moved back to Fulham. Having near and extremely far, the only constant has been Palace. I hardly get to the games these days because of work but I'd still give my right nut for an FA cup.

Moved to Belfast some 25 years ago having been born and raised in Croydon for 30 years. It was very strange for the first 5 to 10 years ...used to lay on my bed some sat afternoons wishing I was at selhurst and missing it all terribly. Now it's only odd when I go back 3/4 times a year for games and staying in a hotel feels so strange, most of the places I knew have now changed beyond belief. But still get a kick going back remembering all the street names etc.

Surrey / Sussex born and bred but relocated to Newcastle 30 years ago and stayed there for 7 years before moving again to Torquay where I stayed for another 7 years before moving to the Midlands 16 years ago having chased jobs each time. The Midlands used to be great at first as there were so many clubs within easy reach whilst we were in the Championship ranging from Leicester, Forest and Derby in East Midlands to West Brom, Wolves, Villa and Birmingham in West Midlands

30 years ago the Clifton was midway on my walk home - since then I've been in a variety of places ending up settled in Kent. The journey to games is a lot longer these days but it actually makes it a bit more of a day out for me - especially as my lad's on board these days & makes sure I get home no matter how many stops may have been made on the way
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |
