well I'm sitting here with my left leg in plaster upto my knee.
I managed to snap (rupture)my Achilles tendon playing football on Sunday.
The hospital have told me I will be in plaster for at least two weeks, followed by 8 weeks in a ROM boot.
The following pysio could be anything upto six months.
Does anyone have experience of this injury, if so how long before you felt "back to normal"?
Although I have a predominately office based job, I still do some physical work as and when necessary.
By the way, I turn 50 this year, so expect the recovery to be slightly slower than if I was a yoof!!

Did mine 11 years ago. Quite frankly, it drives you mad. They had to reset it every 3 or 4 weeks because they set it at an angle and adjust it as it knits. You can't put your foot flat even in the plaster. I was in plaster for 13 weeks in all.

Takes a while to get strength back into it but eventually it'll be all right. Just don't go thinking you can play football like you used to (even after 50).

All the best anyway. Just think that you'll be back to normal around when next season's fixtures come out!

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Wow, plaster for 13 weeks, Jesus not even a week in and I'm pi**ed right off already.
The ROM boot is a self adjustable job, so (hopefully) when they take my plaster off on Monday week it's just a case of me turning the incline down by 10 degrees every two weeks. So a bit of self diagnosis as to whether it's ok.
Thanks for the info.

And to be honest, I think this spells the end of my football career.

I snapped mine in 2000 (age 36). Also broke my ankle with the bone coming out through the side of my foot, so it was complicated. But the tendon was the worst for healing. 18 months before I could work again (I'm a chippie). Yours won't take that long, but don't expect to be able to kick a ball in anger again. Unless you like pain.

Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers

As said before, I think it's time to hang up my boots.
Did you get back to playing?
