I am sorry to hear your news.

My reading of this is that your Dad is a religious man and as such Parchmore got it right

If that is something that provides his strength it must be a good thing

Sometimes the way people wade in with their sanctimony about what others should or should not believe amazes me, especially on a post such as this.

Sometimes people don't know what the right or wrong thing is to say in circumstances Like this so they say something to try and bring comfort and mean well even if it's not to everyone's leanings.

Sending lots of love for the difficult days and nights which lie ahead x

Bangell - If Camus wrote The Myth of Sisyphus today, it would be about Jason Puncheon eternally trying and failing to pass with his right foot.

I fully agree.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

This is so true, but beliefs themselves do not merit automatic respect and deference. Humans certainly deserve some basic level of respect..., but beliefs aren't people. We should be polite and respectful towards the person, but we are justified in being harsh and critical of a person's claims.
